More about the seminar

Spend one day with Ben Maden and we guarantee that by the end of it, you’ll not only leave with your very own website, but it’ll be a site that you’ve built, edited and even installed the plugins into yourself. You’ll be confident making updates and using tools like "WordPress SEO" to help your new website rank better in the search results, and you’ll have learnt the basics of the world’s most popular and powerful Content Management System.

You need to know HTML & CSS. PHP would be useful too.

You don’t need to be coding guru but it is essential that you are familiar with HTML & CSS.

Knowledge of PHP will be very helpful but not essential. Ben will teach you how WordPress works; and show you how to get started with selecting, and editing and even building themes. We’ll also cover installing and making best use of plugins to add new functionality.

Bring your laptop and your attention and we’ll take care of everything else. We’ll even set you up with a hosted environment so you can hit the ground running – yours to use for up to 3 months.

Ben’s expertise in all things Web and WordPress are matched only by his skill to communicate that knowledge in a language that everyone can understand – even the technical stuff. He’s been running workshops and training clients in many aspects of the web for many years now, and has honed his talent for teaching to a T.
However, this does mean the only way to ensure all attendees get the time and attention needed is to keep the numbers low and so places are limited. You can book yourself in now for the 29th March, or if you can’t get to that one, contact us and we’ll keep you in the loop about future events.

Head to our Web Design pages to see why we love WordPress. If you don’t know code and would like to learn to WordPress we have a WordPress for Businesses Training Day too, click for details.

Agenda

In the morning we will teach you the basics…

  1. Build your very own WordPress website
  2. Set-up your WordPress website for use as a Pure Blog or a Business Website with a Blog
  3. Install and use some essential plugins, like "WordPress SEO"
  4. Add and edit pages, learn about the options and features of the standard WordPress website
  5. Customise the theme to add a header and colours

From mid-morning, going deeper

  1. We cover the structure of WordPress overall, pages, posts, themes, widgets and plugins
  2. Understand how themes are structured down to the files in HTML, CSS & PHP
  3. Look into various key templates and functions in PHP
  4. We’ll also utilise various plugins throughout the day

In the afternoon we take it further by getting to know and love WordPress at the heart of the code…

  1. Drill deeper into customising theme elements and learning how to find what you want to change
  2. Practical work through customising your theme with assistance and guidance
  3. Learn to add widget areas to your themes and why this is awesome
  4. Learn to deploy your website quickly and efficiently

Ben: The best way to learn is to “do” as you are learning and have someone on hand to answer your questions.
