Web site building service
We were asked to build the new website RADical Systems website by our new design partner: Origin8 Design.
We were pleased to find a well organised plan and design for the site. This meant we were able to just get down to business and produce their website.
Linux server knowledge-base
Prior to help from Matter Solutions, RADical Systems already had quite a few different hosting accounts with various providers in order to enable different clients to download support files for their software.
It was clear that the help, support and download section of the new website would benefit from bringing all these support files together in one place. Password protecting them would also be necessary.
After discussing the options, Rip, the boss at RADical Systems, decided to buy a new Linux server to be installed on the RADical Systems network. It was set-up with an external IP address and configured with the following features:
- Apache webserver, to serve content to web-based visitors. Links into the office website can be emailed straight to clients. Or clients can log-in via the RADical Systems main website.
- Samba server, to make the web accessible files editable on the internal network. Their staff needed to be able to drag-and-drop support files into generic and/or client specific folders from their desktops.
- Server firewall configured to ensure that only permitted traffic can enter Linux server.
Consultancy and programming
As the files on the webserver could be changed from remote machines on the internal network, assistance was given by Matter Solutions to show the in-house software developers the format of .htaccess and .htpasswd control files.
Some small PHP programs were written to redirect logged in clients and ensure that access is limited to a clients own files only.
The modest amount of time and effort provided by Matter Solutions has enabled RADical Systems to enhance their support services enormously.
